Dixon is a premium manufacturer of zero turn radius mowers. Different brands achieve the zero turn capability in different ways. Basically the mowers have two swiveling front tires and two larger back tires that spin at different speeds to achieve the turning. The first zero turn mower was developed back in 1963 and significantly reduced traditional mowing time. In 1974, Dixon came up with the term zero turn radius or ZTR. Dixon has been around the longest of the residential mower companies and as a result has a much larger network of dealers that have Dixon lawn mower parts.
Currently there are over thirty manufacturers of zero turn radius mowers with both mid mounted decks or out front decks. Steering is accomplished by changing the speed of the drive tires. This is accomplished with two levers one on each side of the driver’s seat. By pushing both levers forward the mower goes in a straight line. Pulling both levers back puts you in reverse and moving one lever while holding the other steady will allow you to turn slowly; while pulling one back and pushing the other one hard forward you get the zero degree turn factor. Because there is a greater stress on the transmissions of these mowers they are in need of more frequent service to keep them running properly. Access to a steady supply of Dixon lawn mower parts is necessary to keep you mower running.
At Jack’s Small Engines you can now order Dixon Owner’s Manuals and Parts Manuals on their site. Dixon True Blue belts start at a little over ten dollars and go up to over forty dollars but in comparison to the price of the mower it is a small price to pay to keep it running. Expect to pay slightly more for Dixon lawn mower parts but you will be happier with the results in the long run.
